A series of works by Sasha Sokolova, Life Still, is a collection of self-portraits in which the artist looks inside herself, revealing her essence and restoring connection with her nature.
Once within four walls, especially in a big city, a person may lose his roots. With my work, I restore this connection. Nature can calm you down; it helps you find harmony with yourself. The 'Life Still' series was born during COVID isolation. While staying in the apartment, I discovered my finds from other countries: eucalyptus, dried banksia, palm branches, and others. The absence of a model forced me to turn to myself and look inside. Self-portraits became a kind of therapy for me. I was naked in front of myself, literally and figuratively, while interacting with flowers. This is a very personal series about my warm relationship with nature and the body as its manifestation.
